Workshop dates

The workshop date will be scheduled after purchase, allowing you arrange a time convenient to you. We offer evening and weekend sessions to choose from. Contact us directly before purchase if you have a specific date in mind.

  • Our staff will assist you in function testing and cleaning your vintage camera. We help you research and date your camera, and answer any questions you have about film or photography in general.
  • We provide you with a roll of film and take you on a short photo walk around the Pollard Yard site to thoroughly test your 35mm or 120 camera.
  • If your camera does not pass function testing, we will allow you to try one of our available film cameras.
  • You leave with tested camera and all the knowledge you need to make the best possible start in your film photography journey.

Location

Hosted within Pollard Yard, on the outskirts of the city centre, our community darkroom is a mere 2-minute stroll from the Holt Town tram stop, and a leisurely walk from the scenic Ancoats marina. We have on-site parking available for guests, and welcome drop-in visitors every Saturday 11am-5pm.

Start your journey with analogue photography the right way with our introduction to film photography workshop. Located in the heart of Manchester, our community darkroom is the best place to learn the wonder of film and help guide your passion for photography.

This workshop is perfect if you have an old unused camera sitting around that you inherited or thrifted long ago. We’ll provide everything you need to function and film test your vintage camera, while answering any questions you have about film or photography in general.

At the end of the workshop you’ll leave with newfound skill, a film tested camera and all the knowledge you need to make the best possible start in your film photography journey.

Roll of film included

You will receive a roll of film to test your camera, or to try out one of our available film cameras. Developing will take place after the workshop to give you as much time experimenting as possible.
