Our introduction to the black & white darkroom brings together two key workshops or anyone wanting to explore the world of black & white photography. It’s the perfect introduction for anyone looking to hand develop and print black & white negative film.
The first workshop is all about black & white film developing. You’ll learn to develop film by hand, including how to load the developing tank and prepare the chemicals needed to process your roll. Whether you’re working with 35mm or medium format film, we’ll walk you through each stage until your negatives are ready for printing.
In the second workshop, the focus shifts to printing those developed negatives. You’ll be guided through the steps of using an enlarger to create darkroom prints, including how to frame and focus your image, control exposure times, and adjust contrast to get the perfect tonal balance in your print.
If you’d like to take your darkroom skills to the next level, you can return for further workshops, where we can explore advanced techniques like split-grade printing, creating unique borders, or mounting your finished prints. These extra sessions are entirely optional and offer a chance to expand your darkroom expertise if desired.
