The EOS 650 marked a departure from Canons FD mount, with the new EF mount designed to support advanced automation. Using electrical signals to communicate between the body and the lens, the EOS range was capable of auto focus and altering aperture settings using electrical motors within the EF lenses. This was a major advancement in camera technology at the time, as most other cameras on the market still relied on manual focusing.

The camera also featured a built-in motor drive that could shoot at a maximum speed of 3 frames per second, making it a great choice for action photography. At the time of its release, the EOS 650 was considered a high-end model in Canon's lineup and had a retail price of around $1,000.

In terms of its design, the EOS 650 was a well-built camera with a sleek and ergonomic body. It featured a large LCD screen on the top of the camera that displayed important information like shutter speed, aperture, and battery life. Additionally, the camera had a wide range of manual controls and custom functions that allowed advanced users to fine-tune their settings.

Overall, the Canon EOS 650 was a high-performing camera that was ahead of its time. Its autofocus and motor drive system were considered revolutionary at the time of its release, and it set the standard for future cameras in the EOS lineup. This camera also marked Canon's entry into the professional photography market, which was dominated by brands like Nikon and Hasselblad, and it was a big success for Canon.
